Biblical Principles For Business

What are your goals for your business? Do you want to make millions or just enough for your kid’s college fund? No matter what your goals are, there are biblical principles you can apply. Nearly 20 percent of all the verses in the bible relate to finances, land, money, goods, cattle, personal belongings and so on. This assures us that God is concerned about our finances. We have a God given right to a successful business if that is a desire of your heart. Here are a few of those basic principles that can be practically applied to our everyday business and finances.

1. You must consistently work hard but also smart in your business.
“For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “If a man will not work, he shall not eat” 2 Thess. 3:10

2. You must operate your business with integrity and also be respectful of another man’s business.
“Do not be deceived. God can not be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” Galatians 6:7-9

3. You must be willing to help others. Help someone else become a success in their business even if it does not benefit you.
“Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38

4. Give a minimum of 10% back to charity, church and/or the needy. Set aside another portion for a rainy day.

5. No matter what your circumstance or education level, know that you have everything already inside of you to succeed. You are entitled to success.

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40: 28-31

Read these scriptures daily. Prosperity and poverty are not by accident.

How's Your Work Space?

I've got a question for you: How's your workspace? I'll admit it - I'm far from an interior designer, but I know that if you are working in a space that is motivating, you'll get more work done. Here are a few tips:

Create a Workspace that Motivates

Step 1 Determine what motivates you. Are you motivated by money? Sales numbers?Praise? What about success quotes or inspirational words? Are you motivated to save enough money to take your family on that amazing vacation you’ve been dreaming about or are you looking to purchase a luxury item? Determine what motivates you first and foremost. You can accomplish this by asking yourself a few questions.

What do you like best about your job? What aspect of your business fills you with the most joy? What aspects of your life fill you with the most joy? What are your goals? Why are they your goals?

Step 2. Make your workspace attractive to you. For some this may mean bright colors and clean lines. Other people prefer a more Zen-like feel and choose neutral colors and minimal embellishments. What is your style? Take it and bring it into your workspace.

Step 3. Make your workspace personal. If you’re inspired by Benjamin Franklin success quotes “Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.” Then post them. Hang pictures of your family or calming scenes. If you’re saving for a vacation, perhaps a picture of that location posted in your workspace will help motivate you on those difficult days. Motivated by money, post your current sales and your sales goals where you can see them at all times.

Step 4. Reduce clutter. Organize, organize, organize. Clutter is a time stealer. If you know where everything is, and everything has a place – off of your desktop –then you’re headed in the right direction. De clutter your desktop by investing in a file cabinet or two. De clutter your computer desktop by organizing your work into files and storing them in larger files. For example you could have a business folder and within that large folder you could have client folder or project folder. Each sub folder would then have all of the documents and relevant files stored right there for easy access.

Step 5. Add music, scents, and plants to make your workplace as pleasing as possible. You don’t want it to be so relaxing that it puts you to sleep but you do want to feel inspired to work.

Step 6. Make sure your desk, desk chair, and computer keyboard are all adjustable to be comfortable for you. An ergonomically designed workspace is a productive one. You can’t get much done if your back is killing you from a poorly designed chair or you’re getting carpal tunnel from a misplaced keyboard. Take the time to invest in comfortable office furniture – your business, body, and bottom line will reward you for the efforts.

Helping Your Teen Find a Summer Job

As a teen, your child will want more and more things to enhance their
lives. In most states, when they turn fourteen, teenagers can hold a
job. Help your teen find that perfect summer job with a few simple
tips.

The easiest way to find a job is through connections. If parents know
someone who has their own business or they own a business, the teen can
work for them. But, if this is not your situation, your teen will have
to find a summer job the old-fashioned way—look for one.
The first line of inquiry is the newspaper job ads. Schools usually
subscribe to the daily local papers. Have them make a list of all of
the jobs that they are interested in. Review the list with your teen.
You are looking to answer a few questions: Is the job within a
reasonable distance from the house? How late will they be working? What
is the pay? What are the job requirements?

If your teen can’t drive yet, distance is important. The parents will
have to drop off and pick them up from the job. If the job is within a
safe distance from your home, but their shift ends at 11 p.m., it is
not safe, especially for a teenage girl, to come home alone after dark.
Your teen will have to fill out an application for any job that they
like. Help your teen to fill out the first application so that they
will know how to fill out future ones. If this is not your teen’s first
job, they can attach a resume with the application. A resume is a brief
history of work and educational experience. There are resume templates
that will guide them through the process.

Once an interview is granted, go over the process with your teen. Ask
them some of the same questions that potential employers will ask
during the actual interview. Help them to keep their answers as simple
as possible.

The dress for the interview is important. Any piercing that could be
offensive should be removed. A nice suit for a teenage boy or a blouse
and skirt for a teenage girl is appropriate. Trendy dress should be
avoided. Hairstyles need to be neat and clean. Outrageous colors and
spiky unkempt hairstyles are sure to raise a few eyebrows at the
interview. This is not a good thing.

When your teen wants a summer job, do your best to help them acquire
one. Prepare them by going over interview questions and assisting them
when choosing an outfit for the interview. Make sure that your child
stands out as the best candidate for the job.
